Pacific Northwest Sportsman’s Show Recap

Five days of fishing, hunting, and camper tours in Portland

Every February, thousands of outdoorsmen and women gather in Portland for one of the region’s largest outdoor events: the Pacific Northwest Sportsman’s Show.
For five days, the show floor fills with fishing boats, hunting gear, backcountry equipment, and travel rigs of every shape and size. It’s part trade show, part reunion for the Pacific Northwest outdoor community, and for many people it’s the moment when winter starts to give way to the planning of spring and summer adventures.
For Alaskan Campers, the event sits just south of the Washington border and is the closest major show to our headquarters in Winlock. That location makes it a great opportunity to bring campers down to Portland and spend a week meeting people from across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and beyond.

Bringing Alaskan Campers to Portland

This year’s booth gave visitors a chance to step inside several Alaskan Campers and see the hard-sided pop-up design in person.

If you’ve only seen a camper online, it’s one thing to scroll through photos. It’s another to walk through the door, sit at the dinette, and start opening cabinets to see how everything actually works.

Throughout the week our team spent hours giving camper walkthroughs and answering questions, showing visitors the layout, explaining how the roof system works, and talking through the details that make an Alaskan unique.

Trade shows create a rare opportunity to see a lot of equipment in one place. Instead of comparing specs on a screen, visitors can climb inside different campers, take measurements, imagine where gear will go, and start picturing real trips.

Camper Tours, Swag, and Show Floor Conversations

One of the best parts of the show was simply watching people experience the campers for the first time.

Visitors stepped inside to explore the interior layouts, check out the pop-up roof system, and get a sense of how much space a hard-sided pop-up can offer once it’s set up.

Our team handed out stickers, swag, and brochures, and spent time walking people through the design features that set Alaskan Campers apart.

Some visitors had been following the brand for years and wanted to finally see a camper in person. Others discovered Alaskan for the first time while walking the show floor and stopped in to learn more about the unique construction and compact footprint.

Trade shows tend to move at their own pace. Sometimes the booth fills up and conversations overlap. Other times visitors take their time stepping inside the camper and imagining where it might take them.

Either way, it’s a great reminder that the most valuable part of these events isn’t the booth itself. It’s the chance to meet people face-to-face and talk about life outside.

Why Shows Like This Still Matter

In an era where almost everything can be researched online, outdoor shows still offer something that websites can’t. They allow people to experience equipment in person. At a show like the Pacific Northwest Sportsman’s Show you can:

  • Step inside campers before committing to one
  • Compare rigs side-by-side
  • Talk directly with salespeople
  • Discover gear and destinations you may not have encountered otherwise

For us, events like this are also a chance to introduce new people to Alaskan Campers and reconnect with longtime owners and fans.
There’s something different about talking through a camper while standing inside it. The details make more sense. The layout clicks. And suddenly people start picturing real places they could go.

A Strong Pacific Northwest Outdoor Crowd

The Pacific Northwest has always had a deep connection to the outdoors, and the crowd in Portland reflected that.

The show brings together people who spend their time fishing coastal waters, hunting mountain terrain, exploring forest roads, and traveling deep into the backcountry. It’s a community built around getting outside and making the most of the landscapes that define the region.

For Alaskan Campers, that kind of travel is exactly what these rigs were designed for. The combination of durability, compact footprint, and four-season capability makes them well suited for the kinds of trips many people in the Pacific Northwest already pursue.

If the show floor had you thinking about your next season outside, we’ve also put together a few guides for some of the most  popular pastimes around here; hunting and fishing:

See You at the Next Show

We had a great week in Portland and appreciate everyone who stopped by the booth to step inside the campers, grab some swag, or take a quick tour.

If you missed the Pacific Northwest Sportsman’s Show this year, there will be plenty of opportunities to see Alaskan Campers in person as the event season continues.

And if you’ve never attended an outdoor show like this before, it’s well worth adding one to your calendar. Seeing gear in person, stepping inside different rigs, and talking directly with builders can be incredibly helpful when you’re planning future trips.

A few simple tips can make the experience even better:

  • Arrive early if you want quieter time exploring booths

  • Step inside as many rigs as possible

  • Take photos or notes so you can compare layouts later

  • Talk directly with the teams and builders on site

Even if you’re not ready to buy anything, shows are a great way to discover new gear, gather ideas for future travel, and connect with the outdoor community. If you make it to one of the upcoming events, stop by and say hello.

We’ll see you out there.
